The church of Pometo was built following the establishment of a new parish, commissioned by Monsignor Bernardo Bertoglio, Bishop of Tortona, with a decree dated January 30, 1949, which sanctioned the community's separation from that of Ruino. Construction work began on May 13, 1957, and was completed in less than a year, on May 10, 1958.
Dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima, the church stands in the center of Pometo, with a north-south orientation. Access is via a dramatic stone staircase with symmetrical ramps, leading to a monumental, salient façade, entirely clad in exposed stone, like the entire building. The entrance portico, opened at the front by elegant exposed brick round arches, leads to the main portal, surmounted by a large, splayed circular rose window framed in terracotta.
The upper side walls are punctuated by eight large rectangular windows per side, providing natural light to the interior. Two exposed stone bell towers rise symmetrically on either side of the façade, with brick corners. Square in plan, they culminate in bell chambers featuring round-arched single-lancet windows and covered by pitched roofs with terracotta tiles. Thin rectangular windows also open onto the tower walls, adding rhythm and verticality to the structure.
