The Parish Church of Nostra Signora Assunta is located in the hamlet of Canevino and is one of the main places of worship in the municipality of Colli Verdi.
The fifteenth-century church, which is believed to have Roman origins, became a parish church in 1692 and was consecrated to Maria Assunta, patron saint of the then municipality of Canevino.
The sacred building stands on a hill and can be reached via a staircase built in 1984 and consisting of 133 steps, which recalls the route taken by the remains of San Colombano and the related miracle that occurred in Canevino in 929.
Structurally, the sacred building has a continuous load-bearing wall on the perimeter, made with the use of stone elements of various shapes and sizes, assembled together with the use of little binder. The building has a roof covering on a wooden framework system.
Miracle of Canevino
In the year 929, during the translatio Sancti Columbani, or the translation of the remains of Saint Colombano from Bobbio to the church of San Michele in Pavia, a mute boy who came to watch the procession acquired the gift of speech. In memory of this miracle, the steps leading to the Church of Nostra Signora Assunta are known as "the ancient path of Saint Colombano".
