The Parish Church of San Pietro in Ruino, located in the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese, is a place of worship which holds an important historical and cultural legacy. The church features a Baroque windmill façade in exposed stone and a basilica plan with a single nave.
In the oldest documents mentioning the "castrum" and the "court," there is no trace of the church of Ruino. Religious life in the area revolved primarily around two sacred buildings: the church of San Pietro and that of Montelungo, both already mentioned in the "extimum" of the Bobbio clergy dating back to the late 14th century.
Until the 17th century, Ruino was part of the parish of Trebecco, but in 1609 it was officially separated by a synodal decree issued by Monsignor Bellini. The only information relating to the ancient church of Ruino is found in a 1747 inventory, in which the building is described as having two naves and three altars.
The current parish church dates back to the second half of the eighteenth century. Built with a single nave and four side chapels, it was later enriched with embellishments that enhanced its architectural and decorative features.
